Modern trends in development of alternative powertrain systems for non-road machinery

Abstract: Continuously increasing excessive emission of exhaust gases from motor vehicles, and specifically internal combustion engines have been recognized as a major concern by most of the industrialized countries since mid- 1960s. Emission gases containing an air pollutants have been shown to impose variety of negative effects on public health and the natural environment. This leads to introduction of variety of different, alternative powertrain system solutions which could help in reduction of powertrain generated e… Show more

“…Popularity of the electrification [21] of transport means is increasing due to its ability to limit the negative impact on the natural environment by reducing the operation time share of the internal combustion engine. This trend can also be found, to a lesser extent, in the non-road vehicle sector [14], as well as in rail transport [25].…”

“…The outlined transmission structure technology is successfully used by global brands John Deere, Claas, Massey Ferguson, etc. [7]. A more proven transmission structure technology is the dual-flow Hydro-Mechanical Continuously Variable Transmission (HMCVT), which has a number of advantages and disadvantages [8,9].…”

“…The advent of commercial Li-ion batteries allowed for the exploration of the first full-electric tractor concepts. In 2016, John Deere presented its first full-electric tractor: SESAM [144,145]. The powertrain architecture, shown in Figure 14, was mainly composed of two electrical machines, characterized by 150 kW power each, and a battery pack of 130 kWh.…”
