Modification of CeO2 and its effect on physical and mechanical properties of gamma irradiated EPDM rubber nanocomposite contain montmorillonite modified nanoclay

Abstract: The modified CeO2 was prepared by a chemical surface modification method. The action of CeO2 powders in EPDM composites contain 10 phr modified clay was studied. The effects of content and surface modification of CeO2 powders on the properties of the EPDM composites containing 10 phr modified clay rubber was discussed. The results showed that the mechanical, volume resistivity and thermal properties of EPDM rubber filled with the modified CeO2 increased by loading of modified CeO2. And the tensile strength of … Show more

“…CeO 2 (ceria) is one of the rare-earth oxides that is used in various applications, including anticorrosion coatings, drug delivery, polishing, etc. CeO 2 nanoparticles have also been used in rubber compounds to improve their thermal stabilities. , However, they are exposed to aggregation similar to other nanometal oxides . The presence of a limited number of OH groups on the surface of CeO 2 nanoparticles provides the possibility of chemical bonding to the silane molecules .…”

“…Other fillers with spatial geometry, like polyhedral silsesquioxanes, delay degradation due to their cage effect when oxidizing entities penetrate the broken edge separating them from the domains subjected to aging by diffused oxygen [ 13 ]. The new lattices structured by doping are suitable versions for attaining the foreseen stability during the application of radiation processing [ 14 ]. This innovative idea is applied in this paper: the filler is properly modified for the implementation of radiation technology into the fabrication of high-tech materials.…”
