Modification of CNC Machine Tool Operations and Structures Using Finite Element Methods: A Review

Abstract: To increase accuracy as well as productivity in CNC machine tools, Finite Element Methods (FEM) are applied to the machining operations and machine tool structures. As a result, the errors of machining operations can be analyzed and minimized in order to enhance accuracy of machined parts. Also, by analyzing the stress and deformations of the machine tool elements under actual loads, performances as well as working life of the machine tool structures can be enhanced. The study reviews the analysis and modifica… Show more

“…TQM means that all workers in each organization should be involved in improving product or service quality. TQM involves techniques such as statistical process control to ensure compliance with technical specifications [14]; however, it focuses on pre-manufacturing phases such as planning, design, and prototyping. In manufacturing, TQM can be implemented through practices such as Kaizen, which involves continuous improvement and employee involvement [15].…”

“…They used various finite element models in this regard [11], [29], [30]. Finite element analysis is a technique that studies the behaviour of a part under applied forces and pressure, giving information about the states of a real object under applied loads [31] [32]. With the finite element analysis, the behaviour of the part can be predicted before the part is produced, and the errors can be corrected before production [33].…”
