Modification of Gold Nanoparticle Loaded on Activated Carbon with Bis(4-methoxysalicylaldehyde)-1,2-Phenylenediamine as New Sorbent for Enrichment of Some Metal Ions

Abstract: In this study, a new sorbent based on the gold nanoparticle loaded in activated carbon (Au-NP-AC) was synthesized and modified by bis(4-methoxy salicylaldehyde)-1,2-phenylenediamine (BMSAPD). This sorbent, which is abbreviated as Au-NP-AC-BMSAPD, has been applied for the enrichment and preconcentration of trace amounts of Co(2+), Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Fe(2+), Pb(2+), and Zn(2+) ions in real samples. All metal ions under study were retained on the Au-NP-AC-BMSAPD sorbent by complexation of the ions with the BMSAPD li… Show more

“…Moreover, it is necessary to develop sensitive and precise methods to quantify the iAs species. A number of separation and preconcentration methods were reported in the literature, solid phase extraction (Marahel et al 2011;Uluozlu et al 2010), gold nanoparticle loaded on activated carbon with bis(4-methoxysalicylaldehyde)-1,2-phenylenediamine as sorbent (Karimipour et al 2012), cloud point extraction, coprecipitation, ion exchange, and chromatography (Hirata and Toshimitsu 2007;Liang et al 2009). Among them, the cloud point extraction (CPE) technique was used for the extraction of As species-like arsenite (As 3+ ) and arsenate (As 5+ ), based on the phase separation of nonionic surfactants in aqueous media (Bezerra et al 2005;Sarı and Tuzen 2010).…”

“…[15] The slight blue shift of SPR from 540 to 525 nm with enhancement in pH is due to decrease in the size of Au nanoparticles. [21][22][23] On the other hand, the structure of starch and amount of produced Au nanoparticle significantly depend on pH value.…”

“…[13,14] Dyes generally are resistant to decomposition and biodegradation with chemicals, heat, and light due to their complex chemical structures. [15] Most of dye removal protocols in despite of their own advantages, possess limitations such as excess amount of chemical usage, accumulation of concentrated sludge, generate serious disposal problems and nonquantitative color reduction. The adsorption technique is based on the transfer of pollutants from the solution to the solid phase is superior to other conventional dye removal techniques in terms of initial cost, simplicity of design, ease of operation, and nontoxicity of the utilized adsorbents compared to other conventional wastewater treatment methods.…”
