In this study, novel hydrophobic organogels were successfully prepared via the aza‐Michael addition reaction method using diamino terminated polypropylene glycol and diphenylmethane bismaleimide as monomers, in the presence of a tri‐amino functional polypropylene glycol as a crosslinking agent. The chemical structures, surface morphology, and thermal stability of the synthesized organogels were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and solid‐state CPMAS 13C‐NMR, scanning electron microscope, and thermal gravimetric analysis technique, respectively. The effects of various parameters, such as the monomer ratio, amount of crosslinker, and as well as swelling properties of organogels by solvent absorption tests were studied. According to obtained results, the solvent uptake capacity increased with decreasing crosslinker ratio up to 30 wt%. The maximum solvent absorbency of the synthesized organogels were determined as 730%, 504%, 271%, 224%, 95%, and 17% for dichloromethane, tetrahydrofuran, benzene, acetone, gasoline and diesel oil, under optimum conditions, respectively. In addition, reusability of the organogels was evaluated for 10 cycles, depicting no significant loss in absorbance capacity. The fabricated organogels showed high solvent absorption efficiency with prospects as suitable material for the recovery of a wide range of organic solvents.

Foley urinary catheters were coated by chlorhexidine‐loaded micelles and chlorhexidine‐loaded nanospheres. In our prior study, the nanocoating of Foley urinary catheter was investigated for chlorhexidine‐release study, degradation, antibacterial evaluation, and cytotoxicity assessment. These studies presented the 1 month antibacterial property of nanocoating deposited via the layers of micelles and nanospheres. In this study, we evaluated the biocompatibility of these catheters, including hemocompatibility, skin irritation, skin sensitization, and stability during the age of coated urinary catheter. Results demonstrated that coated urinary catheters presented slight hemolysis, whereas skin irritation on rabbit and skin sensitization on Dunkin Hartley guinea pig showed no signs of dermal toxicity, which indicated that inflammation, redness, and swelling did not occur. Moreover, the stability of coated urinary catheters during storage indicated no change in chlorhexidine peaks by high performance liquid chromatography. Information from these studies supports the biocompatibility of coated urinary catheters via nanocoating and their use as indwelling devices to prevent urinary tract infections.

Preparation and Performance of Thermochromic and Self-Repairing Dual Function Paint Film with Lac Resin Microcapsules and Fluorane Microcapsules

Microcapsules with lac resin as the core material and urea-formaldehyde resin as the wall material were prepared by in situ polymerization, and then the lac resin microcapsules and fluorane microcapsules were added into a water-based primer or topcoat, respectively, to prepare water-based coatings with dual functions of thermochromic and self-repair. The effects of different methods of adding microcapsules on the optical properties, mechanical properties, self-repairing properties, and the aging resistance of water-based paint film were investigated, so as to prepare water-based paint film with the best discoloration and self-repairing functions. The results showed that the paint film with 10.0% fluorane microcapsules in the topcoat and 5.0% lac resin microcapsules in the primer had better comprehensive properties, and the paint film changed from yellow to colorless at 32 °C, with a color difference of 68.9, hardness of 3H, adhesion grade of 0, impact resistance of 13.0 kg∙cm, and elongation at break of 20.0%. The resistance of the paint film to NaCl, ethanol, and detergent was grade 2, with slight discontinuous marks, and the resistance to red ink was grade 3, with slight marks. The lac resin microcapsules have good aging resistance, which can enhance the aging resistance of the paint film with fluorane microcapsules. The gap width of the paint film was repaired by 2.1 µm, the self-repairing rate was 12.3%, and the paint film with lac resin microcapsules had a better crack inhibition effect. The results have provided a reference for multifunctional wood coatings.
