Modification of the algorithm for calculating fatigue life for the criteria based on the concept of the critical plane

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to propose an algorithm for fatigue life determination with the use of widely-known criteria for the fatigue life considering proper determination of material characteristics, which are a function of the number of cycles to failure. The application of the modified algorithm has been presented within the criteria of Findley, Matake, Papadopoulos and Dang Van, and the results of calculations have been compared with test results for steels S355J2G3 and Ck45. For both materials analysed, t… Show more

“…The effectiveness of multiaxial fatigue models with life-dependent material parameters under cyclic multiaxial with zero mean stress has been validated in a few research papers [21,37,39]. For fatigue loading with a non-zero mean stress, the life-dependent material parameters concept was analysed only in [48], which focused on the algorithm of lifetime calculation, including the concept of life-dependent material parameters. The proposed concept needs to be further verified with a larger group of materials and models.…”

“…The first work on the algorithm for estimating fatigue life under random loads in terms of stress was started by Prof. Macha in 1979 [ 7 ]. The algorithm developed by Macha for the general dimensional state of stress has already been modified many times and presented in various works [ 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ].…”

“…Thus, in general case, the κ parameters are functions of the fatigue life, N f . This problem has been recently analysed in the stress‐based fatigue criteria . It was proved that application of the κ dependence on fatigue life considerably improves the consistency between the calculated and experimental fatigue lives.…”

“…This problem has been recently analysed in the stress-based fatigue criteria. [18][19][20][21] It was proved that application of the κ dependence on fatigue life considerably improves the consistency between the calculated and experimental fatigue lives. The analysed Fatemi-Socie proposal belongs to the damage models represented by Equation 1.…”
