Modification on antibacterial activity of PVC/PVDF blend filled with CuO NPs using laser ablation technique

Abstract: Nanocomposite of polyvinyl chloride (PVC)/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) have been in situ synthesized. Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) have been prepared via using the laser ablation technique. Nanoparticles were added to the blend. The properties of the blend were studied before and after adding CuONPs. These properties were characterized by different techniques. Antimicrobial activity of the prepared nanocomposite film was investigated. FTIR data show vibrational spectral bands and the shift of the band… Show more

“…Incorporation of Ag NPs-modified chitosan into the polyacrylamide-gelatin network and coating the nanocomposite on the surface of PVC was shown to be promising to prevent biofilm-related infections in the endotracheal tube which is an essential medical device to secure the airway patency in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation or general anesthesia [ 170 ]. Composites of PVC with other nanoparticles such as CuO NPs [ 171 ], Ag NPs [ [172] , [173] , [174] ], ZnO NPs [ 175 , 176 ], modified SiO 2 nanoparticles [ 177 ], silver phosphate NPs [ 178 ] gold NPs [ 179 ], Cu NPs [ 180 ], and SiO 2 –Ag [ 181 ] have shown antibacterial activities. In the context of PVC-clay nanocomposites, clay enhances the antibacterial drug loading through electrostatic attraction and intercalation of the drug within its layers.…”
