Abstract-Direction of arrival estimation has a noteworthy significance in numerous applications, such as radar systems, smart antennas, sonar, mobile communications, and space communications. The algorithms used to estimate the direction of arrival are to some degree complex and time consuming. Also, the number of antenna elements is a discriminating parameter for assessing the performance of the DoA technique. For real time systems, quick and savvy techniques are required. Along these lines, decreasing the estimation time and also reducing the system cost while keeping a generally high precision are crucial issues. In this paper, a new technique for linear antenna arrays synthesis using optimized number of antenna elements and its application to direction of arrival estimation is introduced. The synthesized arrays exhibit approximately the same radiation pattern as the original arrays. The optimized antenna arrays are synthesized using reduced number of antenna elements. In this case, the number of antenna elements reduction will minimize the system cost and decrease the number of picked samples from the different signal sources. As the number of samples decreases, the dimensions of the steering matrix and data correlation matrix are reduced. In this context, the computational burden, estimation time, and system cost are optimized. The proposed technique can be applied to single or multi-snapshot DoA estimation techniques.

Differential Evolution (DE) is a simple, powerful and easy to use global optimization algorithm. Trial vector generation mechanism influences the performance of DE algorithm significantly. This research work explores that whether random vector selection in trial vector generation have any role in improving the performance of DE algorithm. A novel tournament selection framework in DE algorithm is proposed to enhance its convergence speed. The novel TSRVDE framework employs tournament selection criteria focuses on the selection of random vector in DE trial vector. We can get rid of worst performing individual selection by TSRVDE that will be helpful to enhance the searching capability of DE algorithm. TSRVDE advancement is applied on the set of frequently used DE variants. To evaluate the performance of TSRVDE a test suit of comprehensive set of well-known multidimensional global optimizations problems is used. The acceleration of TSRVDE can be observed in the experimental results.

A Multi-Beam Model of Antenna Array Pattern Synthesis Based on Conic Trust Region Method

Abstract-In this paper, we propose a multi-beam model for antenna array pattern synthesis (AAPS) problem. The model uses a conic trust region algorithm (CTRA) similarly proposed in this paper to optimize its cost function. Undoubtedly, whole algorithm efficiency ultimately lies on the CTRA, thereof, we propose a method to improve the iterative algorithm's efficiency. Unlike traditional trust region methods that resolve sub-problems, the CTRA efficiently searches a region via solving a inequation, by which it identifies new iteration points when a trial step is rejected. Thus, the proposed algorithm improves computational efficiency. Moreover, the CTRA has strong convergence properties with the local superlinear and quadratic convergence rate under mild conditions, and exhibits high efficiency and robustness. Finally, we apply the combinative algorithm to AAPS. Numerical results show that the method is highly robust, and computer simulations indicate that the algorithm excellently performs AAPS problem.
