Modified distance protection in presence of UPFC on a transmission line

Abstract: This paper presents a modified distance protection scheme in the presence of Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC), one of the Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System (FACTS) devices. The presence of UPFC on a transmission line has a great influence on the measured impedance at the relaying point. The measured impedance itself depends on the power system structural conditions, pre-fault loading, and especially the fault resistance. In the presence of UPFC, its controlling and structural parameters as w… Show more

“…A modified distance protection for UPFC-compensated power network is presented by Dash, et al [2]. An adaptive and modified version of distance protection scheme, considering influence of UPFC, was proposed in [3]. In [4], an adaptive distance relay scheme for wind and UPFC connected parallel transmission lines is reported.…”

“…En [5], un sistema de protección convencional se modifica por un esquema de protección de línea única utilizado por el controlador de flujo de energía unificado (UPFC). La investigación ha demostrado que la impedancia aparente medida por los relés se ve afectada por las características de control y diseño [6].…”
