Modified zero‐voltage‐switching single‐stage LED driver based on Class E converter with constant frequency control method

Abstract: This study presents an integrated-stage AC-DC lighting-emitting diode (LED) driver based on flyback and Class-E converter with high power factor (PF) with a wide range of the duty cycle. The flyback circuit works in discontinuous conduction mode to realise the PF correction function, and the Class-E circuit is used as DC-DC converter to transfer the energy to the LED load. By sharing the common switch of the two circuits, the cost of system can be decreased distinctly. In addition, the Class-E converter provid… Show more

“…When the inductor current reaches zero, the diode turns off and another resonance circuit is occurred between the inductor and the output capacitance of the MOSFET. Equation (10) shows the MOSFET output voltage. Note that it never becomes negative; therefore, the diode does not turn on.…”

“…Efficiency and power loss analyses of buck-flyback LED drivers were conducted in [9], which can be extended for other types of LED drivers. Some researchers used resonant circuits to increase the efficiency of LED drivers, in which power switches work on zero voltage and/or zero current switching (ZCS) [10][11][12]. One of the most popular methods in using the resonance to enhance the efficiency of the LED driver is the valley switching method [13][14][15].…”

“…less than 25W and input current does not remain sinusoidal. S. Zhang, X. Liu, Y. Guan, Y. Yao and J. M. Alonso [24], have depicted a LED driver topology in which switches are turned on and off by a modified ZVS control scheme. It is a single stage topology of LED driver based on Flyback and Class E converter.…”

“…43,44 At the output of first stage a non-electrolytic capacitor is permitted in place of electrolytic capacitor. [60][61][62][63] In CRM, the switching frequency is not fixed as contrast to DCM. The demerits of the system lie in its increased number of components, high cost and reduced efficiency.…”
