Modular Power Sharing Control for Bearingless Multithree Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine

Abstract: This paper proposes a modular approach to the power sharing control of permanent magnet synchronous bearingless machine. The selected machine topology features a winding layout with phases distributed into non-overlapping three phase groups, a solution whose twofold aim is to increase the fault tolerance and to allow for the radial force generation. The three phase sub-windings are supplied by standard three-phase inverter, leading to a modular system architecture. A throughout explanation of the methodology u… Show more

“…Various multi-three-phase structures can be achieved. In the case of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives, as illustrated in Figure 1, three main winding structures can be identified: multi-sector winding [1,2], multi-three-phase winding [3][4][5], and highly coupled winding [6][7][8][9]. One problem of using multi-three-phase drives is the DC-link design.…”

“…They recently gained interest due to their advantageous economies of scales effect, their flexibility, reliability and additional degrees of freedom [1][2][3]. MMDs that are composed of a multiple of three motor and PE modules-the so-called multi-three-phase machines [4,5]-are of particular interest, since they can be considered as a group of three-phase winding sets, fed by standard three-phase two-level voltage source inverters (2L-VSIs). From the control point of view, these multithree-phase machines can make use of the well-consolidated three-phase control strategies, extending the modularity of the hardware to the control as well [6,7].…”
