Modularity-Based Dynamic Clustering for Energy Efficient UAVs-Aided Communications

Abstract: Abstract-In this letter, we propose a novel modularity-based dynamic clustering relying on modified Louvain method for UAVs aided mobile communications. Our aim is to save the transmit power of the mobile devices, by locating the UAVs vertically projected on the centroids of the user clusters. We further propose two types of operation for the modularitybased dynamic clustering, namely the recurring operation and the differential operation. We show that the proposed method requires substantially lower transmit … Show more

“…This method is computationally efficient but it may result in a low-quality local optimum. Geometry-based methods including dynamic clustering algorithm [63] and circle packing method [64] are frequently applied to optimize the UAV placement and power consumption. However, these methods may fail in a complicated situation [65].…”

“…Lasari H N et al proposed the concept of cross-layer design and efficient power algorithms to improve the performance of UAV networks [105]. The modular dynamic clustering method based on the improved Louvain method can be used for efficient UAV-assisted mobile communication, which is promising in solving the energy consumption of UAVs and reducing the transmission power of mobile devices [106]. The networked multi-agent system (NMDS) uses local control rates based on the spatial information of the nearby environment and neighboring agents to exhibit a sudden swarming behavior, but there is currently no method of interaction between the operator and a large number of agents.…”

“…By contrast, Wang et al [33] considered both hotspot and average tele-traffic scenarios. Yu et al [34] aimed for minimizing the transmit power of mobile devices by dynamically deploying UAVs upon additionally taking into account the mobility of devices on the ground. However, the propulsion power consumption of UAVs is much higher than their transmit power consumption, hence the former determines the service duration of UAV.…”
