Modulation measuring profilometry with auto-synchronous phase shifting and vertical scanning

Abstract: To determine the shape of a complex object with vertical measurement mode and higher accuracy, a novel modulation measuring profilometry realizing auto-synchronous phase shifting and vertical scanning is proposed. Coaxial optical system for projection and observation instead of triangulation system is adopted to avoid shadow and occlusion. In the projecting system, sinusoidal grating is perpendicular to optical axis. For moving the grating along a direction at a certain angle to optical axis, 1D precision tran… Show more

“…Then, an intensity curve I k ( x , y ) will be collected by grouping all images from all different images; here, k is the serial number of the image. This envelope called the modulation curve, which is shown as a green solid curve, has a direct relationship with the defocusing degree of the fringe image and can be deciphered by Fourier fringe analysis [ 14 ]. Here, the rotation of the mirror by a certain interval can be regarded as sampling the intensity curve.…”

“…However, this technology has a lower spatial resolution than other uniaxial 3D shape measurement techniques due to the calibration approach adopted. Zhong et al [34] utilized modulation measurement profilometry and Jing et al [35] introduced an electronically focus-tunable lens into the system to flexibly control the pattern focusing level. However, this method could not directly provide the exact size of the measured object, and the use of normal pin-hole lenses may lead to perspective error.…”

“…Single image acquisition methods include binocular vision [4], spatially encoded light [5], Fourier transform profile [6], etc. Multiple image acquisition methods include the phase-shift profile [7], modulation measurement profile [8], etc. Due to the fact that the multiple image acquisition method needs to capture many images, it has low efficiency and is not suitable for dynamic measurements.…”
