“…NPFFR1 mRNA is present in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis and several amygdaloid nuclei , which are heavily implicated in the regulation of anxiety . Importantly, blockade of the NPFFR subtypes has been shown to attenuate anxiety‐like behaviour in rats undergoing amphetamine and ethanol withdrawal, which are both known to be stressful and anxiogenic conditions . Consistent with these findings, we have recently reported that RFRP‐3 and GJ14 induce anxiogenic‐ and anxiolytic‐like behaviour, respectively, in mice following a 5‐day central infusion treatment .…”

“…Our previous studies showed that NPAF and KP-13 increase the plasma corticosterone levels and induce anxiety-like behavior in elevated plus maze test in rats [13,29]. It has also been demonstrated that antagonism of NPFF receptors attenuates the ethanol and the amphetamine withdrawal-induced anxiety-like behaviors in rats [30,31]. Taking into consideration the present and the previous studies we can conclude that RFamide neuropeptides are involved in anxiety and there are no species differences between rats and mice in terms of NPAF-induced anxiety-like behavior.…”

“…NPFF receptor antagonists have been reported to confer anxiolytic effects. Treatment with RF9 reverses amphetamine withdrawal-induced anxiety-like behavior [ 46 ], and dansyl-PQRamide (a putative NPFF antagonist) reduces anxiety responses triggered by ethanol withdrawal [ 47 ]. We have recently reported that chronic stimulation of NPFFR2 triggers hyperactivity of the HPA axis and disrupts hippocampal feed-back regulation resulting in depression-like behaviors in mice [ 25 ].…”
