Modulation of Thermal Insulation and Mechanical Property of Silica Aerogel Thermal Insulation Coatings

Abstract: In this paper, high-performance silica aerogel (SiO2 aerogel) thermal insulation coatings were obtained and profited from the excellent thermal insulation capability of SiO2 aerogel. The comprehensive properties and thermal insulation mechanism of the coatings were investigated via Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), contact angle, and temperature difference tests. Results showed that there was a contradiction between thermal insulation and mechanical property i… Show more

“…Because CGM@C has CTS, G, and PVA in it, which gives it a certain viscosity. After drying, it can not only enhance the bonding strength between fibres but also fill in surface defects and pores in CGM@P, which can increase the density and surface smoothness of CGM@P and ultimately enhance its mechanical strength 30 …”

“…The presence of microbeads significantly increases the specific internal surface area of the coating. This increases the chances of heat being obstructed during conduction, 30 resulting in heat being conducted in more directions, lengthening the conduction path, and increasing heat loss during the conduction process. Consequently, the thermal conductivity coefficient of the composite cardboard is reduced.…”

“…Aerogel material exhibit many excellent properties including low density, high specic surface area, high porosity, and excellent heat insulation properties. [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] The above-mentioned excellent properties of the aerogel material make it an ideal thermal insulation material and has good application prospects in aeronautics, astronautics, and other elds. [26][27][28] Therefore, introducing an aerogel structure into the new microstructure of ZrO 2 materials may further signicantly improve the thermal insulation performance of ZrO 2 materials.…”

“…Consequently, numerous novel insulation materials have been developed to enhance the energy-conservation performance of the existing and new constructions. These materials provide enhanced thermal-insulation properties [ 7 , 8 , 9 ], enhance economic viability, and promote carbon neutrality. It is clear that the development of high-performance insulation materials that facilitate the reduction in building energy consumption is of paramount significance [ 10 ].…”
