Modulation spectroscopy of coherent population trapping resonance and light shifts

Abstract: We develop a theory of modulation response of the coherent population trapping (CPT) resonance. We consider the simplest three-level atom, but take into account the polychromatic spectrum of the pumping and probing light produced by pure FM modulation of single frequency field. The analysis based on the density matrix equations rigorously includes the most important for applications range of modulation parameters where modulation frequency and deviation are comparable with or greater than the CPT linewidth, so… Show more

“…For this purpose, we plan to use an optical chopper or an electro-optic modulator [34] that may aid us in the analyze the sensor in short intervals of time. This is particularly important for the sake of spectral analysis of the sensor that will help us in the analysis of the samples of interest, and can be done with the help of an arrangement [35] that involves a beam splitter and a coherent source of laser light.…”

“…We consider modulation spectroscopy of the CPT resonances [53]. The crucial point of this technique is the time-harmonic perturbation of the Ω frequency's phase with the index a, ϕ(t) = a sin ω m t. This modulation provides dispersive-shape response at the frequency ω m in the absorption coefficient κ(t) of the optical field by an atomic ensemble.…”

“…The relaxation term Γg of the coherence takes into account the power broadening, Γg = Γ g + V L + V R . The two-photon detuning δ accounts the light shift, 2 δ = 2δ + δ r + δ nr , where δ r is the resonant light shift, and δ nr is the non-resonant light shift [5,9,19,53] from all components of the optical…”
