Moisture dry-out from steel faced insulated sandwich panels

Abstract: This study analyses moisture dry-out from a steel faced insulated sandwich panel. Three test walls, with lower parts close to the free water level, were studied in a laboratory under different climatic conditions to measure their dry-out capacity and to obtain data for simulation model calibration. The hygrothermal simulations were done with the simulation tool Delphin in stable climatic conditions to determine the magnitude of the moisture dry-out capacity. Comparison of the measured and simulated relative hu… Show more

“…A 2D model was necessary to achieve a good agreement between the measured data and simulation results. Kalbe et al [22] reported a good agreement of the measured and simulated drying processes, but there was a possibility of a slight overestimation of drying. The authors compared the measured and simulated RH and water vapour pressures (Figure 8), which showed sufficiently good agreement, although the simulation tended to underestimate RH in the high humidity region.…”

“…The measurements were done using a climate chamber located at HAMK Tech in Finland (previously Hämeenlinna Sheet Metal Centre). The same sandwich panels were studied in a subsequent study in TalTech, Estonia, which is presented in another paper at NSB2020 [4].…”

“…Therefore, alternative methods of improving the adhesion between rubber and steel are of great interest. Aluminum mesh, metalized film, and sheet aluminum are popular substrates in the building industry, working as a carrier or construction element for flashing tapes, roofing tape, or roof window collars [ 124 , 125 , 126 ]. Popular sound deadening and vibration damping plates (VDP) and tapes for the automotive industry are usually made of bitumen or butyl rubber-based adhesives [ 127 ].…”
