Molar volume and ultrasonic studies of europium soaps in mixed organic solvents

Abstract: The ultrasonic velocity and density measurements of europium soaps in a mixture of benzene and methanol (3:2, vol/vol) were used to evaluate various acoustic parameters and molar volume and to determine the critical micelle concentration. The results showed that the ultrasonic velocity, specific acoustic impedance, molar sound velocity, and molar compressibility increase, and intermolecular free length, adiabatic compressibility, and relative association decrease with increasing concentration and chainlength o… Show more

“…The physical properties of the metal soap solutions exhibit a discontinuity at the cmc. The cmc values are summarized in Table . It is difficult to compare the values of the different compounds in the table, because different solvent mixtures have been used. For one and the same solvent mixture, the cmc values were found to decrease with decreasing chain length of the lanthanide soap and to decrease over the lanthanide series.…”

“…The ultrasonic velocity of zirconyl soap in mixed organic solvents was studied by M. Anis [61] and calculated various acoustic parameters A. K. Sharma et.al [62] discussed various acoustic parameters of copper carboxylates. K. N. Mehrotra et.al [63] and Y. Sharma [64] reported ultrasonic results to find out the compressibility behavior of europium soaps in mixed organic solvents, and lithium laureate in a benzene-methanol mixture. The viscosity of cerium soaps in non-aqueous solvents was reported by R. Sharma [65] .…”

“…Although in the literature several n 2n11 3 studies on lanthanide soaps in solution can be found, among them Refs. [5][6][7][8][9][10][11], hardly any reports on the spectroscopic properties in solution are available [12,13].…”
