Molecular characterization and expression patterns of a non-mammalian toll-like receptor gene (TLR21) in larvae ontogeny of common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) and upon immune stimulation

Abstract: BackgroundIn the host innate immune system, various pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) recognize conserved pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and represent an efficient first line of defense against invading pathogens. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are a major class of PRRs, which are able to recognize a wide range of PAMPs and play a central role in initiating innate immune responses. TLR21 is one of the non-mammalian TLRs identified in some bird and fish species.ResultsIn the present study, we rep… Show more

“…A total of five of each cyprinid species were used for the experiment (Rey Vazquez & Guerrero, ; Ribeiro et al., ; Tripathi, Latimer, & Burnley, ). Neither visible lesions nor gross abnormalities were observed in any of the fish in the experiment (Li et al., ; Li, Yang et al., ; Zhang et al., ).…”

“…The role of HDAC6 in the adaptive CD4 + T‐cell response has been studied in several autoimmune and inflammatory situations, such as colitis and cardiac allograft rejection . In the process of an innate immune response to fight against intracellular bacterial infections, HDAC6 participates in the indication of the pro‐inflammatory transcriptional program through the Toll‐like receptor pathway, which is triggered by sensing of cell‐surface and endo‐phagosomal bacteria …”

“…Both PBLs and HKLs consist of heterogeneous cells and are widely used as an experimental system to study immune responses (Li et al, ; Zhang et al, ; Zhang et al, ). We isolated the leukocytes from peripheral blood and head kidney for further investigation to obtain a better understanding of the antimicrobial role of irf9 .…”
