Molecular characterization ofStaphylococcus aureusstrains in bovine mastitis milk in Bangladesh

Abstract: Staphylococcus aureus is a common causative agent of bovine mastitis in dairy herds worldwide. This study was designed to assess the prevalence of mastitis in cows through screening tests and molecular characterization of Staphylococcus aureus strains. Out of 175 randomly screened cows, mastitis was detected in 50 cows by California Mastitis Test (CMT), and from those mastitic cows, 200 quarter milk samples were collected for subsequent culture and PCR based identification. The herd, cow and quarter level prev… Show more

“…In bovine mastitis, predominantly identified pathogens are bacteria 6,7,[10][11][12][13][14][15][16] , however, other concomitant microbial players like archaea and viruses 6,12 could also be detected, highlighting the novel insights from metagenomics compared to amplicon sequencing. The bovine milk microbiome was dominated by Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Actinobacteria and Bacteroidetes,…”

“…Metagenomics 6,7,[13][14][15] and isolate sequencing 35 of mastitis pathogens provided overwhelming evidence that microbial traits, for instance, pathogenicity, virulence, antibiotic resistance, and metabolic potentials are linked with strain-specific genomic characteristics 21,[36][37][38] .…”
