“…Sometimes edematous proventricular glands, hemorrhagic ulcers in the wall of intestine were common with virulent viscerotropic NDV. These findings confirmed the suspicious of NDV infection as previously mentioned by many authors (Alexander, 2009;Susta et al, 2010;Radwan et al, 2013;Ewies et al, 2017). Virus isolation was attempted on SPF ECE which represent an extremely sensitive method for the isolation of NDV (Alexander, 1989;OIE, 2008).…”

“…Hence, there are some vaccine breaks from genotypes I and II [ 26 ]. In Egypt, NDV outbreaks occurred in several vaccinated and non-vaccinated poultry farms in different governorates since 2011 causing severe respiratory and nervous signs and high mortalities that resulted in severe economic losses in 3-4-week-old broiler chickens [ 27 , 28 ].…”

“…In Egypt, NDV was identified for the first time in 1948 (Daubney & Mansy, 1948). In the last decade, despite the intensive application of the NDV vaccination regiment, many velogenic NDV outbreaks have been recorded in different avian species such as chickens, ducks and pigeons (Ewies, Ali, Tamam, & Madbouly, 2017;Hussein et al, 2005;Mohamed, Kumar, Paldurai, & Samal, 2011;Radwan, Darwish, El-Sabagh, El-Sanousi, & Shalaby, 2013). Moreover, a recent study showed that velogenic NDV circulates in small-scale poultry holdings with the ability to transmit over long distances between farms (Moharam et al, 2019), which indicating a complex endemic situation for NDV in Egypt.…”
