“…The seizure-related protein, the 78-kDa glucose-regulated protein, was up-regulated after enrichment training (2-and 2.6-fold after 3 and 6 h); expression of this 78-kDa protein also increased after 2 days of training (3-fold) but dramatically decreased after 14 days of training (Ϫ7-fold). These data indicate that the dynamic regulation of the 78-kDa protein could be intimately coupled with brain activity (29,30). Similarly, neurokinin A, a neurotransmitter of the tachykinins family, is induced almost 3-fold after 3 and 6 h of training.…”

“…The gastrula and egg firststrand cDNA were respectively labeled with digoxigenin using a DIG High Prime system (Boehringer Mannheim) as positive and negative probes for the differential screening (Kajiwara et al, 1996). The blots of PCR products from gastrula SMART cDNA library were neutralized for 2 min in 0.5 M Tris -HCl (pH 7.5) and baked for 2 h at 75-80 -C. The membrane was pre-hybridized for 1.5 h and hybridized for 16 h in 5 Â SSC, 0.1% N-lauroylsarcosine0.02% SDS, 1 Â blocking solution (Boehringer Mannheim) and 100 mg/ml denatured salmon sperm DNA at 68 -C. Blots were washed in 2 Â SSC and 0.1% SDS two times at room temperature, followed by two washes in 0.1 Â SSC and 0.1% SDS at 68 -C under constant agitation for 15 min each.…”

“…Epileptic seizures are known to stimulate cPLA 2 activity and its expression with the accumulation of arachidonic acid (Visioli et al, 1994;Kajiwara et al, 1996). Studies on the pentylenetetrazol-induced model of epilepsy in rat brain indicate significant elevations in sPLA 2 activity in cortical, hippocampal, and cerebellar regions compared with the control group.…”
