Molecular Characterization of Vaccine-Derived Mutants of Avian Meta-Pneumoviruses Isolated from Turkeys in Egypt

Abstract: Avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) causes acute respiratory infection in turkeys with sudden onset and rapid spread in the infected flocks. Vaccinated flocks frequently showed clinical signs typical like the non-vaccinated flocks in Egypt, this situation suggests a virulent vaccine virus was circulating in the field. Oropharyngeal and nasal sinus swabs were collected from 100 turkeys from 10 commercial farms with mild to moderate respiratory signs. Virus isolation and propagation was done in SPF embryos of chicken e… Show more

“…Live attenuated aMPV vaccines are widely administered to prevent disease in turkeys and chickens, and the recovery of vaccine‐derived strains is not unusual both in vaccinated or in unvaccinated flocks (Andreopoulou et al., 2019; Arafa, Mady, Hussein, Tamam, & Madbouly, 2015; Banet‐Noach, Simanov, Laham‐Karam, Perk, & Bacharach, 2009; Bayraktar et al., 2019; Cecchinato, Drigo, et al, 2013; Chacon et al, 2011; Listorti et al., 2014; Lupini et al., 2011).…”
