“…The results of this study enable a reassessment of index cases for megalocytivirus infection and provide the first evidence of TRBIV-like megalocytiviruses in ornamental fish species, as all previous molecular phylogenetic studies of megalocytiviruses from ornamental fish showed affinities with ISKNV (Song et al 2008, Weber et al 2009, Kurita & Nakajima 2012, Sriwanayos et al 2013, Subramaniam et al 2014, Mohr et al 2015, Nolan et al 2015. To the extent that the samples analysed in this investigation are representative, the lack of detection of ISKNV megalocytiviruses in ornamental fish prior to the mid-1990s (Fig.…”

“…Megalocytiviruses have been implicated to infect more than 50 fish species and currently threaten the aquaculture industry, causing great economic losses in China, Japan, Australia and South-East Asia (Jung-Schroers et al, 2016;Mohr et al, 2015;Rimmer et al, 2015;Wang et al, 2007). Earlier, the ISKNV virus restricted to countries like Korea, China, Singapore and Taiwan (Joon et al, 2008;Tanaka et al, 2014) and later reported from USA (Yanong & Waltzek, 2012), Japan (Tanaka et al, 2014), and entered Australia (Mohr et al, 2015;Rimmer et al, 2015) and Germany (Jung-Schroers et al, 2016) through the fish transportation. In the present investigation, the presence of exotic ISKNV was detected and identified from the retailers at different locations in Karnataka state, India.…”

“…In a histopathological manner, hypertrophic cells with large basophilic cytoplasmic inclusions can be found in internal organs (Gibson‐Kueh et al., ; He et al., ). Outbreaks have occurred most frequently in East and South‐East Asia (Subramaniam, Shariff, Omar, & Hair‐Bejo, ), although the international trade of ornamental fish has aided the spread of these viruses to Europe (Jung‐Schroers et al., ; Sriwanayos et al., ) and Australia (Mohr et al., ; Nolan, Stephens, Crockford, Jones, & Snow, ; Rimmer, Whittington, Tweedie, & Becker, ; Rimmer et al., ).…”
