Molecular Cytogenetic Characterization of two Triticum–Secale–Thinopyrum Trigeneric Hybrids Exhibiting Superior Resistance to Fusarium Head Blight, Leaf Rust, and Stem Rust Race Ug99

Abstract: Fusarium head blight (FHB), leaf rust, and stem rust are the most destructive fungal diseases in current world wheat production. The diploid wheatgrass, Thinopyrum elongatum (Host) Dewey (2n = 2x = 14, EE) is an excellent source of disease resistance genes. Two new Triticum–Secale–Thinopyrum trigeneric hybrids were derived from a cross between a hexaploid triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack, 2n = 6x = 42, AABBRR) and a hexaploid Triticum trititrigia (2n = 6x = 42, AABBEE), were produced and analyzed using geno… Show more

“…Th. elongatum harbors many beneficial genes that protect against adverse conditions such as disease, cold, drought, and salinity, and thus represents a promising gene donor to improve tolerance to biotic or abiotic stresses in common wheat [3739]. In the current study, we produced hybrid progenies by crossing a Triticum durum–Th.…”

“…intermedium, and tetraploid wheatgrass Th. junceiforme, have been shown to be highly resistant to FHB (Chen et al 2005;Becher et al 2013;Kalih et al 2014;Dai et al 2017). Additionally, some wheat-wild species, including accessions of the St genome of Th.…”
