Molecular Diversity in Flax (Linum usitatissimumL.) as Revealed by DNA Based Markers

Abstract: The present investigation was undertaken to assess the genetic diversity of flax cultivars using molecular markers. 90 SSR and 10 ISSR flax markers were employed for molecular diversity analysis. Out of these, 25 microsatellite markers were found to be polymorphic giving a total of 99 bands with an average of 3.96 bands per marker ranging from 2 to 12. The polymorphic information content (PIC) value of each SSR primer pair ranged from 0.21 to 0.88 with an average of 0.49 while in case of ISSR primers, out of 1… Show more

“…Population structure analysis is also important for association mapping as it is essential to define the population stratification within the accessions to avoid any false association (Flint-Garcia et al 2005). The current global prospect and health related properties of linseed have dictated the need for the evaluation of its genetic diversity through molecular markers and exploitation by marker assisted breeding (Pali et al 2015(Pali et al , 2014Chandrawati et al 2014;Rajwade et al 2010;Kale et al 2012). However, informations on large genetic stocks of linseed especially that developed and grown in India is available from only a few reports of AFLP, ISSR and RAPD markers.…”

“…На сьогодні більшість ДНК-маркерів базуються на оцінці поліморфізму анонімних послідовностей геному. До таких маркерних систем належать RAPD (random amplified polymorphic DNA) (Fu, 2006), AFLP (amplified fragment length polymorphism) (Everaert et al, 2001), ISSR (inter simple sequence repeats) (Pali et al, 2015), SSR (simple sequence repeats) (Singh et al, 2015) тощо. Такі ДНК-маркери розроблені для багатьох видів рослин і є достатньо інформативними, однак вони мають певні недоліки, що обмежує сферу їхнього застосування.…”

“…The cultivation of flax plants exhibiting high yield, high quality, and strong resistance to stresses under different growth conditions is the main goal of flax breeding. However, the existing cultivated flax crops belong to the same species and have a narrow genetic basis ( Smýkal et al., 2011 ; Pali et al., 2015 ; Vikas and Nandan, 2016 ; Hoque et al., 2020 ). In addition, the genetic diversity of flax cultivars has been reduced, owing to the long-term cultivation, artificial domestication, and excessive utilization of a few germplasm materials.…”
