Molecular Epidemiology of HIV Type 1 Infection in Iran: Genomic Evidence of CRF35_AD Predominance and CRF01_AE Infection Among Individuals Associated with Injection Drug Use

Abstract: To understand the molecular epidemiology of HIV-1 infection in Iran, we conducted the first study to analyze the genome sequence of Iranian HIV-1 isolates. For this cross-sectional study, we enrolled 10 HIV-1-infected individuals associated with injection drug use from Tehran, Shiraz, and Kermanshah. Near full-length genome sequences obtained from their plasma samples were used for phylogenetic tree and similarity plotting analyses. Among 10 isolates, nine were clearly identified as CRF35_AD and the remaining … Show more

“…[21,22]. The phylogenetic tree represented highest similarly between our RT sequence and CRF-AD35 and this study correlated with other study was done in Iran [23] exempt subtype C that this sample belonged east of Iran(Mashhad). Subtype C is prevalence in India [24] and historical of patient represented that he had traveled to India.…”

“…In Iran, CRF35-AD has an epidemiological connection with CRF35-AD. Discovered in Afghanistan, this connection is thought to be due to drug trafficking and immigration [29]. …”

“…In glycosylation processes, an oligosaccharide chain binds to asparagine (N) occurring in the tri-peptide sequence N-X-S or N-X-T, where X can be any amino acid except Pro (24). Accession numbers of the used sequences were BAM37429, BAM37384, BAM37456 and BAM37411, named A, B, C and D, respectively (6). Of course, we randomly selected these four sequences.…”

“…Measures adopted over the years resulted in slowed progression of the epidemic amongst IDUs, but the role of sexual transmission in the spread of HIV in Iran is alarmingly growing (3)(4)(5). Therefore, the HIV epidemic in Iran is in the concentrated phase (6).…”
