Molecular Mechanisms of Phenylpropane-Synthesis-Related Genes Regulating the Shoot Blight Resistance of Bambusa pervariabilis × Dendrocalamopsis grandis

Abstract: Bambusa pervariabilis × Dendrocalamopsis grandis shoot blight caused by Arthrinium phaeospermum is a fungal disease that has affected a large area in China in recent years. However, it is not clear which genes are responsible for the disease resistance of B. pervariabilis × D. grandis. Based on the analysis of transcriptome and proteome data, two genes, CCoAOMT2 and CAD5, which may be involved in disease resistance, were screened. Two gene expression-interfering varieties, COF RNAi and CAD RNAi were successful… Show more

“…Highland barley is an important grain crop in the plateau area of China. It is rich in nutrients and meets people’s demand for a healthy diet [ 29 ]. In addition, highland barley has a strong stress resistance, so as to ensure the normal growth of highland barley crops in the adverse environment [ 30 ].…”

“…Embryos of B. pervariabilis × D. grandis seeds were cross-sectioned [ 68 ], disinfected, and air-dried. The seeds were then inoculated onto MS medium supplemented with 500 mg/L proline, 500 mg/L glutamine, 300 mg/L casein hydrolysate, 30 g/L sucrose, 8 g/L agar, and 4 mg/L 2,4-D for callus induction under continuous light at 26 °C for approximately 20 days [ 1 ]. A. tumefaciens single colonies containing the desired vectors were cultured in media containing the corresponding antibiotics until the OD 600 = 0.2.…”

“…Bambusa pervariabilis × Dendrocalamopsis grandis is a superior B. pervariabilis × D. grandis variety developed through a 12-year breeding program. It is derived from the mother plant Bambusa pervariabilis , characterized by its small size, branching abundance, and ease of propagation, and the larger Bambusa grandis , serving as the father plant [ 1 ]. In addition to exhibiting the advantages of both parent plants, this bamboo variety also shows clear characteristics of growth superiority and ease of asexual reproduction.…”

“…The condition can worsen the quality of bamboo timber in mild cases or lead to the total loss of the bamboo stand in severe cases [5,6]. While research into the disease's physiology has been conducted, molecular biology studies have also progressed [7]. To combat agricultural diseases, engineering techniques are rapidly being used to create disease-resistant cultivars, with resistance genes now regarded as the most efficient and affordable option available.…”
