Molecular phylogenetic analysis for Ovis aries with whole mitochondrial genome sequencing

Abstract: Domestication of Ovis aries has taken place time immorial across the different geographical regions across the globe. Biodiversity among the sheep population has been interesting to study by a group of researchers based on mitochondrial genes like Cytochrome B, D loop. The current study is a novel attempt to understand the molecular phylogenomics among Ovis aries through all the 37 genes of mitochondria. We have analyzed complete mitochondrial genome sequencing for sheep breeds for West Bengal as Garole… Show more

“…In our earlier studies, we could explore certain immune response genes against parasitic infestation in sheep model (reference) and against bacterial (Chakraborty et al, 2023), viral (Pal et al,2021 and Pal et al, 2020) in chicken and duck model (Pal et al, 2022). Simultaneously, we have also detected certain genes of mitochondrial origin, which are responsible for disease resistance in sheep (Banerjee et al, 2021, Rawat et al, 2021), chicken and duck model (Pal et al, 2020, Pal et al, 2021,Pal et al, 2022). In the following research work, it was attempted to study a novel area of role of certain nuclear genes that act through mitochondria (Chakraborty et al, 2023).…”

“…In our lab, we had reported the phylogenetic analysis for sheep initially with mitochondrial gene as Cytochrome B 2 . Later on, phylogenomic analysis for sheep were conducted with complete mitochondrial genome 3 . Indigenous breeds of sheep are mostly adapted to their local climatic conditions and somewhat resistant to diseases.…”
