Geological studies indicated that the uplift events of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau occurred more strongly and frequently since 3.4 myr ago (Yu et al, 2000; and references therein), The rich geological and ecological diversities of the QinghaiTibet Plateau, together with habitat isolation due to changing climatic conditions during the uplift of the plateau, might well promote rapid speciation in small, isolated population, thus, allowing the fixation of peculiar morphological characters. We noted that all glyptosternoid fishes were not easily distinguished from each other, although many distinctive features were defined and the genetic distances among them were high.…”
