A Habenaria species in northern Thailand is widely known as H. limprichtii Schltr., but most specimens are in fact referable to H. yuana Tang & F.T.Wang. This incorrect identification was first pointed out in one Thai specimen by Ormerod & Sathish Kumar (2008) in a study of Myanmar orchids, and is confirmed in re-examinations of a large number of Thai specimens in the present study. However, the study revealed that true H. limprichtii also occurs in Thailand, although it is very rare. The two species are superficially similar but are distinct in details of their flower morphology. Descriptions, a key to the species, and illustrations are provided.

The genera and relationships within these two clades (93) are supported, although the relationships within these two clades do not have high PP, and the topologies are not entirely consistent with the results obtained in recent phylogenetic studies (Jin et al, ; Raskoti et al, ; Tang et al, ), in which the phylogenetic relationships of these clades, including additional Asian groups, were constructed based on additional DNA markers. We estimated the molecular phylogenetic relationships of the Chinese members of the family Orchidaceae. Within the Tree of Life for the Genera of Chinese Vascular Plants using atpB, rbcL, matK, ndhF, and matR, the currently delimited subfamilies, tribes, and subtribes are highly supported as monophyletic except for the perplexing Epidendroideae. Five genes (rbcL, matK, psaB, ycf1, and Xdh), which are more universally used in Orchidaceae, were further analyzed to reconstruct the phylogeny of Epidendroideae. The reconstructed trees were in strong agreement and showed significant support for the tribal and subtribal clades. Based on the highly supported circumscription and arrangement of the suprageneric levels in the Tree of Life and reconstructed trees, we have proposed a new phylogenetic classification of Chinese Orchidaceae that includes five subfamilies, 17 tribes, and 21 subtribes.

Abstract.A new species of the genus Habenella Small is described based on material collected in Nepal. The novelty resembles H. anomaliflora Kurzweil & Chantanaorr., from which it differs by the presence of a single leaf, oblong-lanceolate lip, ovate lateral sepals with a somewhat oblique base, and oblong-lanceolate petals. An identification key for representatives of Habenaria s.l. reported from Nepal is included.
