Abstract:This article describes an elementary construction of a dual basis for non-uniform B-splines that is local, L ∞ -stable and reproduces polynomials of any prescribed degree. This allows to define local projection operators with nearoptimal approximation properties in any L q , 1 ≤ q ≤ ∞, and high order moment preserving properties. As the dual basis functions share the same piecewise polynomial structure as the underlying splines, simple quadrature formulas can be used to compute the projected spline coefficient… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
