Steel slit damper (SSD) is specifically engineered to absorb and disperse energy to mitigate the possibility of structural damage and collapse during seismic events. However, the effectiveness of these dampers are compromised due to wear, corrosion and other forms of material degradation and failure mechanisms. For this reason, it is important to consistently monitor its condition and conduct maintenance and repairs to guarantee safety and dependability of the structures it is installed with. Now, vibration-based techniques have emerged as a promising structural health monitoring (SHM) strategy. It involves methodologies for detecting changes in functions and analyzing vibrations to discover potential problems. This study entails a comprehensive examination of the most recent advancements and breakthroughs in vibration-based methodologies used in SHM. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA 2020), we identified several key techniques and technologies that show promise in enhancing the maintenance and monitoring of steel -or steel and metal surfaces-slit dampers. The pros and cons of these methods are presented to be applicable when monitoring an SSD. This paper presents notable figures and their corresponding discussions to achieve enhanced understanding of the advancements in SHM towards sensor technologies, monitoring techniques, and applications in civil infrastructure. Furthermore, this paper reviews the applications and functions framework for real-time SHM of SSDs together with their practical implementations and applications using diverse monitoring technologies to promote innovation. Finally, the optimal sensor selection criteria, data gathering methodologies, experimental settings, innovative approaches with comparative analyses, and a proposed maintenance standard for SSDs are described in this study. The displacement of transmission tower feet can seriously affect the safe operation of the tower, and the accuracy of structural health monitoring methods is limited at the present stage. The application of deep learning method provides new ideas for structural health monitoring of towers, but the current amount of tower vibration fault data is restricted to provide adequate training data for Deep Learning (DL). In this paper, we propose a DT-DL based tower foot displacement monitoring method, which firstly simulates the wind-induced vibration response data of the tower under each fault condition by finite element method. Then the vibration signal visualization and Data Transfer (DT) are used to add tower fault data samples to solve the problem of insufficient actual data quantity. Subsequently, the dynamic response test is carried out under different tower fault states, and the tower fault monitoring is carried out by the DL method. Finally, the proposed method is compared with the traditional online monitoring method, and it is found that this method can significantly improve the rate of convergence and recognition accuracy in the recognition process. The results show that the method can effectively identify the tower foot displacement state, which can greatly reduce the accidents that occurred due to the tower foot displacement.

Modal analysis is an effective tool in the context of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) since the dynamic characteristics of cement-based structures reflect the structural health status of the material itself. The authors consider increasing level load tests on concrete beams and propose a methodology for damage identification relying on the computation of modal curvatures combined with continuous wavelet transform (CWT) to highlight damage-related changes. Unlike most literature studies, in the present work, no numerical models of the undamaged structure were exploited. Moreover, the authors defined synthetic damage indices depicting the status of a structure. The results show that the I mode shape is the most sensitive to damages; indeed, considering this mode, damages cause a decrease of natural vibration frequency (up to approximately −67%), an increase of loss factor (up to approximately fivefold), and changes in the mode shapes morphology (a cuspid appears). The proposed damage indices are promising, even if the level of damage is not clearly distinguishable, probably because tests were performed after the load removal. Further investigations are needed to scale the methodology to in-field applications.
