“…ESI has been successfully used to disclose several mechanistic aspects of a plethora of catalyzed and noncatalyzed reactions, as discussed in several reviews. [76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83] The Brønsted acid-catalyzed Biginelli reaction mechanism was rst disclosed by ESI monitoring by Eberlin and co-workers. 84 Later, we demonstrated the Lewis acid-catalyzed Biginelli reaction mechanism 53 and some variations of Brønsted acid-catalyzed reactions.…”

“…Graham Cooks' group has introduced ESI variants that have found purchase in the organometallic community, notably desorption electrospray ionization (DESI) and direct spray (a catch‐all term for methods where an electrospray is generated from the sample under investigation) . DESI involves an electrospray plume which, instead of containing the analyte in solution, is directed at the analyte on a surface.…”

“…The application of ambient ionization techniques to reaction monitoring has attracted much attention, however many of these techniques are most applicable to off‐line analysis due to the difficulty in presenting a representative sample of the reaction to the source on‐line. The many ionization techniques used in this application area have been reviewed . As the ambient ionization techniques are very extensive, a list of definitions can be found in the table of acronyms included in this manuscript.…”
