Monitoring of the Cooling System via Thermal Parameters

Abstract: The cooling system, including the thermal grease, heatsinks, plays an important role in the power converters for its reliable operation. While in the long-term operation situation, the cooling system will degrade with different kinds of failure mechanism of the components and finally result in the damage to the power converters. In this paper, the method was proposed to monitor the thermal network parameters of the cooling system using the cooling curves of junction temperature. By establishing the relationshi… Show more

“…Because with the degradation of the thermal grease caused by the pump-out and dry-out phenomenon, the heat transfer path will be affected, so it is necessary to monitor the change of the thermal grease impedance. As proposed in [25]- [27], by utilizing the time constants of cooling curves, the degradation of thermal impedance can be monitored. It should be noted that this method is based on the Cauer thermal network model.…”

“…So how to apply it to practical engineering remains to be studied. [16] studied the operation state prediction of the forced air cooling system, but the scheme is an offline monitoring scheme, workable only during the downtime of equipment.…”
