Montessori Yönteminin Okul Öncesi Çocuklarının Matematik Becerilerine Etkisi

Abstract

ARTICLE INFOThe aim of this study is to compare math skills of children with and without Montessori education. In this context, posttest-only control group design was used in this study. Study group of the research consists 39 children in the 5-6 age group in total from two different kindergartens in the city center of Ankara, one of them uses Montessori education method and one does not use. 19 children who got education with Montessori method were included in the experimental group and 20 children who did not get Montessori education were included in the control group. Only the post-test applied to the groups. Personal information form which developed by the researcher and the Early Mathematics Test (EMAT) developed by Aydoğan, Akkaya, and Özyürek (2018) were used to collect data. In the analysis of the data, Kruskal Wallis H and Mann Whitney U tests were used. As a result; it was found that, the educational institution they attend is effective in children's mathematics skills. The mathematics skill scores of the children who received Montessori education were higher than those who did not receive Montessori education. It was determined that whether the mother is working or not did not cause significant changes on the children's EMAT scores.
