Monthly variation in univentricular heart and transposition of the great arteries – 10–year national population-based cohort study

Abstract: Objective: Monthly variation in the total prevalence of the univentricular heart (UVH) and dextrotransposition of the great arteries (d-TGA) at gestational age 7 + 0 weeks was assessed to determine potential environmental factors, such as viral or bacterial infections, underlying the variation. Study design: The nationwide retrospective ten-year population-based cohort consisted of 592 733 births and 2764 terminated pregnancies due to fetal anomaly. The pre-or postnatally diagnosed cases of UVH (n = 440) and s… Show more

“…Some scholars used the medical-nursing cooperation model to care for patients with VH, and the results showed that this model can effectively promote the functional recovery of patients[ 12 ]. The effect of health guidance based on the WeChat platform on the rehabilitation management of patients with vestibular function was investigated[ 13 ]. The rehabilitation management based on the WeChat platform enhanced the supervision of patients' rehabilitation training and promoted the improvement of patients' vertigo symptoms[ 14 ].…”

“…Congenital heart defects (CHD) are the most common congenital anomalies, and transposition of the great arteries (TGA) is one of the most frequent cyanotic CHD in neonates. The birth prevalence of TGA is approximately 2–3 per 10,000 (Hautala et al, 2021; Liu et al, 2019). More than 50% of infants will die by the first month of life and 89.3% in the first year if TGA is left untreated (Liebman et al, 1969), but when treated, this condition has a good prognosis: in a single‐center South Korean study the survival rate of operated patients was 96% at 20 years (Choi et al, 2010).…”

The birth prevalence of TGA is approximately 2-3 per 10,000 (1,2). Maternal diabetes (3,4), higher haemoglobin A1C (5), and elevated random plasma glucose values in the first trimester in mothers without diabetes (6) have been associated with an increased risk for CHD in the offspring.…”
