Moral Education and Literature: On Cora Diamond and Eimear McBride

Abstract: I argue in this paper for the rich and subtle connections between moral philosophy and literature as they are articulated and explored in the work of the contemporary American philosopher, Cora Diamond. “…The calculation process for the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation of postgraduate moral education is based on the example of School D. The number of scores for each three-level indicator of School D is shown in Table 5, and the affiliation degree of each indicator of School D is shown in Table 6. In the comprehensive evaluation of this study, five-level rubrics are set for each indicator, i.e., V=[V1, V2, V3, V4, V5]=[Excellent, Good, Medium, Qualified, Poor], and are assigned the value of V= [5,4,3,2,1], and the effectiveness of the work of moral education is evaluated by the personnel related to graduate education (students, graduates, and faculty members of each school) in each school. In this study, based on the number of scores given by the investigators to each indicator, the number of scores given to each rubric level of each indicator was divided by the total number of scores to derive the degree of affiliation of the indicator in each rubric level, so as to establish a single-factor fuzzy comprehensive judgment matrix.…”

“…In this process, the integration of ideological and political education work is of great significance. "Educate people first, educate morality first, educate morality first, educate the soul," with the increasing complexity of the background of higher education school education and the increasingly open environment, making the ideological and political education in colleges and universities, educational methods, means, content should be enriched [4].…”

“…Our Special Issue has long had the aim of giving prominence to, and extending, work in the philosophy of education attentive to questions of literature and literary experience (see for example Buganza, 2012;Carr and Davis, 2007;Cigman, 2014;Conroy, 2008;Davis, 2011;Johansson 2011;Mahon, 2017;O'Donnell, 2014;Smith, 2008Smith, , 2010Smith, , 2015Standish, 2007Standish, , 2015. Yet as well as this we have wanted to give due attention to the rich and often un-mined possibilities for educational thinking in the field of philosophy and literature.…”

They should not only strengthen their expert expertise and abilities but also have noble morals and good labor spirit and quality so as to achieve consistency between words and deeds and unity of knowledge and action [1][2]. As a special higher education school running for society and supported by modern information technology, the Open University bears the important responsibility of ideological political education [3].…”
