Moral Entrepreneur

Abstract: Within the interactionist theory of deviance -or labeling theory -moral entrepreneurs function as rule creators and rule enforcers. Deviance, according to labeling theory, is a result of applying rules to an act, thus moral enterprise constitutes an important part in defining deviance. The concept of the moral entrepreneur inspired the study of social problems and helped uncover the often professional interests of moral entrepreneurs fighting in an apparently purely ethical battle.
