Morfología comparada de los pleópodos del macho de Rhynchocinetes typus (Caridea: Rhynchocinetidae)

Abstract: Abstract.-The morphological adaptation that the first pair of pleopods has experienced in the Caridea group, permits to characterize them as gonopods which are used for transferring spermatophores to the female during the mating. In order to know the function of the pleopods in the transfer of spermatophores during the mating of the rock shrimp Rhynchocinetes typus, it was necessary to determine the morphology of the male pleopods. The analysis of the first pair of pleopods showed a different morphology compar… Show more

“…Several groups of decapods, stomatopods, leptostracans and euphausiids possess a stmcture called cincinnuli near the tip ofthe appendix intema, an appendage associated with the endopod of the pleopods, or directly on the endopod (e.g.. Bate, 1888;Tombes & Eoster, 1979;Nicol & Nicol, 1983;Bouchon & Chaigneau, 1991;Ingle, 1992;Martinez & Dupre, 2010). Erom scanning electron microscopy images it can be seen that the cincinnuli comprise an assemblage of several to hundreds of mushroom-or hook-like processes, with varying number and shape according to the taxa, and those from the right and left appendix intema can adhere to each other, possibly enhancing synchronized beats of the paired pleopods (e.g.. Tombes & Eoster, 1979;Pohle & Telford, 1981;Nicol & Nicol, 1983;Bouchon & Chaigneau, 1991).…”

“…G1, G2, G3, experimental groups 1, 2 and 3. Felgenhauer & Abele, 1982;Berg & Sandifer, 1984) y la morfología de los dos primeros pares de pleópodos (Martínez & Dupré, 2010), se puede sugerir que probablemente el 1º par de pleópodos es el encargado de recibir los espermatóforos y los endopoditos del 2º par probablemente impulsan los espermatóforos desde el 1º par hacia el esternito de la hembra, principalmente a través del apendix masculino.…”
