Morphodynamics of swash bars in mesotidal exposed beaches of SW Spain

Show more

“…Turbidity displayed the highest value close to the bottom, particularly at S19, where a maximum of about 100 NTU was registered. Generally, turbidity is related to high-velocity currents and no sediment bypass or erosion (Anfuso et al, 2003). However, it should be noted that station S19 is located on a steep slope in the onshore side of the moundlike feature.…”

“…However, it should be noted that station S19 is located on a steep slope in the onshore side of the moundlike feature. This geomorphological feature together with an intense current parallel to the coast likely increases current velocities and, in consequence, leads to erosive processes on the edge of the palaeovalley as indicated by the coarse sand and gravel composition, promoting highest turbidity conditions at S19 (Anfuso et al, 2003). Additionally, turbidity inside the palaeovalley should be associated with a slow sedimentation process (organic and inorganic particles).…”

“…Disturbance depth was surveyed with rods and washers and plugs of marked sand previously gathered at the beach, washed and coloured with a red dye (Greenwood and Hale, 1980;Jackson and Nordstrom, 1993;Ciavola et al, 1997;Anfuso et al, 2000Anfuso et al, , 2003. Fourteen rods were inserted into the intertidal beach surface during the morning low tide, along two parallel profiles (fig.…”
