Morphological and immunohistological study of testicular lymphomas

Abstract: We have studied normal testis, seminomas and malignant lymphomas of the testis using routine stains and a panel of antibodies directed against lymphoid and basement membrane antigens. The results show that normal testis contains, at most, a minor population of T-lymphocytes: seminomas contain mixed T- and B-cell populations with a predominance of B-lymphocytes; and most primary lymphomas are B-cell tumours of large centroblastic type. Solid testicular lymphomas presenting secondarily to acute lymphoblastic leu… Show more

“…This correlation is consistent with a recent report where the expression of an IgM was associated with the worst prognosis in a large series of nodal DLBCL cases. 16 It is also consistent with the observation that this isotype predominates in rare and aggressive forms of lymphomas, such as primary central nervous system, 15 primary testicular 17 and primary cutaneous DLBCL, 18,19 which all have an ABC-like phenotype. 20 Isotype class switching in DLBCL P Ruminy et al…”

“…An aggressive course of primary testicular T-cell lymphoma has been reported by other studies too (2,3,5,6). Despite of aggressive treatment with high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplantation as salvage therapy in this patient, the patient experienced a short-term relapse in the leptomeninges.…”

“…According to our observations and those of previous investigators [6,9,11,14], primary testicular DLBL occurs chiefly in older men (usually from the sixth decade and older) and almost invariably shows significant infiltration in the walls of seminiferous tubules. In contrast, the testicular relapses of lymphoblastic leukemia typically occur in young patients and show an interstitial infiltration pattern with preservation of the tubules in between the leukemia infiltration [35]. The secondary testicular lymphoma (transformed FCL) in this case occurred in a 45-year-old man and showed an interstitial infiltration pattern with wellpreserved tubules in between the lymphoma infiltration.…”

“…These lymphomas can involve testis either primarily without previous disease elsewhere or secondarily following lymphoma involvement in other body sites [6,9,11,24,27,30,35,37].…”
