Morphological and molecular characterization of Curvularia lunata pathogenic to andropogon grass

Abstract: The fungal genus Curvularia is associated with a number of diseases in plants, commonly producing foliar spots in forage grasses. The objective of this study was to characterize the morphological and molecular diversity of the isolates of Curvularia sp. associated with Andropogon seeds, and to assess both their capacity to transmit disease and the pathogenicity of this fungus to crop. Ten isolates of Curvularia sp. were sourced from Andropogon seeds from agricultural producing regions in the Brazilian states T… Show more

“…Chutia et al (2006) discovered that a leaf blight of Cymbopogon winterianus Jowitt is caused by Curvularia spp., resulting in a dramatic change in oil yield and its constituents. Recently, Santos et al (2018) characterised the morphological and molecular diversity of the isolates of C. lunata, associated with Andropogon Linn. seeds.…”

“…The genera Curvularia [ 54 ], Cladosporium [ 55 ], and Trichoderma [ 56 ] contain plant pathogen species but also others that benefit the growth of many plants. They are ubiquitous with representatives that are considered “indoor fungi”, and well-known for producing different enzymes [ 57 ].…”

“…Para avaliação a caracterização dos gêneros fúngicos, critérios morfológicos, foram adotados conforme literaturas especializadas (NITHIYAA et al, 2012;HAFIZI;SYM, 2013;EHGARTNER et al, 2017;NAYYAR et al, 2017;SANTOS et al, 2018). Os efeitos das concentrações sobre percentual de sementes infestadas foram realizados conforme a fórmula descrita por Sangoi et al (2000).…”
