Morphological assessment of arteries occluded by hydrogel with enhanced hemostatic effect

Abstract: Dicinone-saturated emboli switch off pathological bloodflow and arrest bleedings upon endovascular embolization of blood vessels. Dicinone emboli exert a potent hemostatic effect and promote more rapid and expressed (in volume) thrombogenesis.

“…In originating erosive forms of hemorrhage during the progression of tumorous process, emboli with enhanced hemostatic activity are indicated. 12 Inoperable malignant liver tumors are also frequently treated with so-called chemoembolization based on immobilization of active anticancer drugs such as 5-fluorouracil, doxorubicin, and cisplatin on embolizing particles. Poly(HEMA) materials possess polyfunctional characteristics.…”

“…These particles have served as fillings for both benign and malign tumors and as preparations arresting profuse bleeding of various origins in clinical practice in Russia for more than 15 years. [10][11][12][13][14] In some cases, e.g., in hepatic and pancreatic tumors and hemorrhages, cylindrical particles, which are usually easier to administer, were used; on the other hand, for treatment of bronchial hemorrhage and giant angiodysplasia in the pelvic region, spherical particles are more beneficial. Embolization with poly(HEMA) particles is advantageous because their calibrated size enables selection of the embolus according to the diameter of the blood vessel lumen.…”
