The genus Ziziphus belongs to the Rhamnaceae family, which includes about 100 species of deciduous or evergreens with tree or shrub form. They are distributed throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of the world (Johnston, 1963), of which 12 species are cultivated (Hammer, 2001).
