Morphology and weight-length relationship of tinfoil barb (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii) at Tasik River, South Labuhanbatu Regency, Sumatera Utara

Abstract: Tinfoil barb is one of the fish caught in the Tasik river. The purpose of this study was to determine the morphology and weight-length relationship of tinfoil barb. This research was conducted in July-August 2020 in the Tasik river using a net with a mesh size of 1.25 inches. The number of fish caught was 96 fish with a total weight (TW) of 2-47 g and a total length (TL) of 60-125 mm. Meristic characteristics of tinfoil barb consecutively are as follows: 31-33 Linnea Literalis (LL), 24-26 Body Circular Scales … Show more

“…The type of base can modify the current velocity differential between rivers, the river's width, and the existence of barriers to River currents (Djumanto et al 2013). Similarly, these factors support a diverse array of fish species in the Wampu, Bahorok, and Batangtoru rivers (Muhtadi et al 2017;Desrita et al 2018;Desrita et al 2020) Hemibagrus and Kryptopterus are bottom fish, which can be seen from the body shape, which is flat compressed (Hemibagrus), whereas Anabas, Barbonymus (Nurfadillah et al 2019;Desrita et al 2021c), and Pristolepis are mid-to deep-water fish, and Cyclocheleichtys, Rasbora, Barbichthys, and Labiobarbus are surface fish (Desrita et al 2021b). The only shrimp found in Labuhanbatu rivers is the gigantic prawn (M. rosenbergii), located in the Barumun River.…”

“…This past knowledge suggests the necessity of defining suitable forms of potential carbohydrate sources in the diet of farmed fish species to improve their aquaculture production. Tinfoil barb (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii) is one of the commercial freshwater carps with pleasant flesh quality and better growth of more than 1 kg (Desrita et al, 2021;Saowakoon et al, 2021). In addition to food values, yellowish silver body with orange or red dorsal and tail fins profoundly attract global aquarium hobbyists to raise tinfoil barbs as ornamental fish (Jaffar et al, 2019).…”
