Introduction. To assess the direct cost of treatment of cirrhosis and related complications at the gastroenterology department of CHU-Campus Lomé. Methods. Seven months cross-sectional study of 82 cirrhotic patients hospitalized for cirrhosis with decompensation. Results. The average total cost per patient was 313,333 CFA francs (€ 478.4) for 18.5 days in hospital. The average cost of hospitalization was 77,767 CFA francs (€ 118.7) for an average stay of 15.5 days. The total cost of laboratory tests were 124,502 CFA francs (€ 190.1). The average total cost of morphological examinations was 49,800 CFA francs (€ 74.9). The average cost of medicines and treatments the highest was that of upper gastrointestinal bleeding which was estimated to 76,833 CFA francs (€ 117.3), followed by ascite to 61,731 CFA francs (€ 94.24). The average total cost of all medications and accessories was 52,841 CFA francs (€ 80.7). Conclusion. The average cost of hospitalization for cirrhosis and its complications was higher than mean wage in Togo.
