Mortality and Disease Status in Hy-Line and Isa-Brown Strains of Layer Chickens Reared in Cage System in Bangladesh

Abstract: Mortality and disease status in Hy-Line (n= 3450) and ISA-Brown (n = 250) strains of layer chickens were carried out in three commercial layer farms in the district of Mymensingh from day-old to 65 weeks age of birds from September 2003 to December 2004. The management including housing, hygienic measures, vaccination practices, diseases occurred and mortality were observed and recorded daily. Diseases and disorders were diagnosed based on the disease history, clinical signs, characteristics necropsy lesions, … Show more

“…Our observation is in agreement with the results of [ 15 , 17 , 18 ], who reported a significant association between the age of chicken and the occurrence of diseases. Similarly, the association observed between the age of chicken and mortality is in consent with the results of [ 19 , 20 , 21 ] who reported decreasing mortality as age increases in the order of laying period (8.34%), growing (6.32%), pullet (4.65%), and brooding (3.78%) ages.…”

“…Oliveira et al (2005) assessed the persistence of the Salmonella Gallinarum in commercial laying hens despite the absence of signals of fowl typhoid in white variety; it was different in brown hens. Uddin et al (2011) found a difference between ISA-Brown and Hy-Line in morbidity and mortality rates caused by diseases, but there were not any differences in these parameters for salmonellosis. We found a higher percentage of Salmonella infection (SPA test) in Hy-Line than in the other genetic strains studied.…”
