The Internet of Things (IoT) is a communication paradigm that aims to cover the current Internet. In this sense, IoT covers a large space in the daily life of human beings, whether in the academic field or in the industrial sphere, therefore, there are smarter cities, health and automation of environments. Through the IoT it is possible to connect the objects of the everyday world to the Internet, in order to make these objects communicate with each other and with users. This work presents the way in which the IoT can corroborate in the fight against Urban Fires, through a system that interacts sensors, microcontrollers, the user and the Fire Department. The use of sensors that collect information about a certain location, send it to a controller board, which in turn forwards that information to the server, which directs the information to the user and the Fire Department, is the mechanism that will allow firefighters to be alerted to the incident. In this way, the work of the competent bodies can be made more effusive and, therefore, prevent the spread of fire in order to fight fires. It is worth mentioning that the rapid action of firefighters is extremely important, as the fire spreads quickly and produces incalculable damage.

This article presents the mapping and analysis of fires with dead and wounded people in the Metropolitan Region of Recife (MRR) served by the Firefighters Department from 2013 to 2016. There was an average rate of 1 death per million inhabitants, similar to countries such as Singapore and Vietnam. The weighted number of fires per wounded or dead person results in rates of 0.5 and 1.7 per 100 recorded fires, respectively. These numbers are concerning, especially when compared to rates from other regions in the world. The victims of fires in MRR were shown to generally not be a perceivable problem in terms of common sense, yet they are real and require accurate analysis and effective measures.

Este artículo intenta discutir una propuesta de compilación y padronización de datos de incendios en edificaciones, en el contexto de Brasil y de Latinoamérica, una vez que no hay estudios que posibiliten la descripción de estos datos en estos territorios, utilizando, para eso, la ciudad de Recife, en el Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil, haciendo posible su replicación en otros condados de Brasil, así como en otras grandes ciudades de Latinoamérica que adopten la misma padronización. El método es basado en investigación estadística y en el perfil hipotético deductivo descripto en la literatura. Teniendo como resultados la distribución geográfica de los incendios en edificaciones, la distribución de estos por ocupación o finalidad de las edificaciones, la clasificación de las principales estructuras atingidas por incendios, la descipción de los incendios que generan víctimas fatales, las areas construídas más atingidas, los locales que se supone que han iniciado los incendios, y los principales objetos que han sido quemados en las edificaciones, teniendo como lapso temporal el trienio 2011 a 2013, con énfasis en el primer año.
