MoS2 Decorated Carbon Nanofibers as Efficient and Durable Electrocatalyst for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Abstract: Abstract:Hydrogen is an efficient fuel which can be generated via water splitting, however hydrogen evolution occurs at high overpotential, and efficient hydrogen evolution catalysts are desired to replace state-of-the-art catalysts such as platinum. Here, we report an advanced electrocatalyst that has low overpotential, efficient charge transfers kinetics, low Tafel slope and durable. Carbon nanofibers (CNFs), obtained by carbonizing electrospun fibers, were decorated with MoS 2 using a facile hydrothermal me… Show more

“…While an additional peak can be identified at 163.6 eV after fitting the S 2p spectra. In accordance with related literature, it is attributed to the edge S . More significantly, integral calculation on the peak area shows that O,P‐MoS 2 have 19.06% edge S, yet the percentage of edge S for O‐MoS 2 is 14.69%.…”

“…Figure 3 b shows that S 2p 1/2 and S 2p 3/2 are located near the energy of 162.2 and 161.2 eV, respectively. These peak positions are in good agreement with the results of previous relevant reports, which also determine the MoS 2 is in 1T stacked structure in this study [ 27 , 28 , 29 ]. On the other hand, all peaks of the planar MoS 2 are slightly lower than that of Si/MoS 2 core-shell NP arrays.…”

“…The electrochemical surface area (ECSA) was calculated using the formula C dl / specific capacitance (C s ). The C s was calculated as 40 μF/cm 2 [42]. The calculated ECSA of MoS 2 and MWCNTs/MoS 2 composite was 0.098 cm 2 and 0.207 cm 2 , respectively.…”
